In Progress
In collaboration with Paried Architecture- The traditional suburban home is framed by a large front yard and deep backyard; a living condition that is both desirable and generally unattainable under contemporary circumstances. When so much of housing today is discussed around affordability, one wonders what can housing afford beyond a house? This scheme for Site B is developed as a multi-objective response which, in addition to cost and feasibility, aims to address its integration onto the site through the lens of the individual and the community, efficiency and adaptability, climate and local ecology, all the while retaining a familiar sense of place
OVERVIEW

Plinth to Separate and Connect
he housing units are connected through a soft plinth, creating private entrances at ground level reminiscent of a porch (the front yard), while the walkable landscape above fosters a sense community (the backyard). Contrary to a traditional block that fortifies, a softer boundary between the houses and the public street is created, providing a familiar sense of scale
Adaptable Plans
The base plan can shrink or expand depending on lot size, all the while maintaining the program. The minimum desirable lot size is is 50 wide and 127’-6” deep, which includes set backs
Soft- Scaped Landscape
The landscape uses various endemic drought tolerant plants to suggest degrees of private and public while reducing heat gain. By absorbing rainwater, it minimizes unnecessary run-off with outlets for excess water to be harvested and later reutilized by the community
Variations+Combinationsn
Each house has a series of identical floorplates that enforce the scheme’s modularity. Different combinations allow for a variety of housing typologies to co-inhabit the same site, such as a family home with or without an ADU, as well as layouts more suitable for co-living or work-from-home, all contained within the same building envelope
